Avanos Town

Historical backgroundArchaeological finds from Zank Höyük reveal Avanos’s origins in the Bronze Age. Known as Venessa during Hellenistic and Roman times, it was considered the third most important city of Cappadocia after Kayseri and Tyana. A major temple dedicated to Zeus Ouranos once stood nearby.
